Services
Services
Everyone is welcome at our services. The main language is Greek, and we make an effort to offer sermons and some readings in English as well.
Every Sunday
Sundays from 8:30am
Regular services
The Divine Liturgy is celebrated every Sunday morning.
Sunday worship
Matins begins at 8:30am, immediately followed by the Divine Liturgy. The service usually finishes around midday.
Language
Our Sunday service is performed in both Greek and English.
Holy Communion
Kindly know that a prerequisite to receive Holy Communion is unity in the Faith, as well as spiritual preparation by prayer, fasting, and regular participation in the Sacrament of Holy Confession.
Non-Orthodox Christians are kindly requested to refrain from receiving Communion. All are, however, welcome to partake of the “antidoron” (blessed bread) distributed at the conclusion of the Service.
Feast days and special services
Dates change from year to year. For the dates of special services, please contact the parish office at office@stathanasios.org.uk.
Great Lent
During Great Lent we hold extra services on weekday evenings, such as Great Compline with the Canon of St Andrew of Crete, the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, and the Salutations to the Mother of God.
Feast days
Major feasts, such as the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple, are marked with Matins and the Divine Liturgy on the day itself, even when it falls on a weekday.
Memorial services
On the Saturdays of Souls, the Divine Liturgy is followed by a memorial service.
